Threads of Us / Mohamoud O. Mohamed
Mohamoud wears a macawis, a plaid sarong, with a shirt and a woven shawl over one shoulder. This is everyday Somali dress, shaped by climate and by generations of making.
He holds a Hadhuub-Gaal, a Somali container for milking camels. It is hand-woven from the Booc and Argeeg trees. Camels have long meant food, wealth, and identity to Somali people, and the vessel comes from that pastoral life.
For Mohamoud, both are ways of holding on to where he comes from.
