Remmus wears all black with a black Hmong vest hand-stitched in Thailand. The vest carries flower cloth embroidery and silver money coins. In Hmong culture the coins stand for prosperity, protection, blessing, and family wealth handed down. A pink sash belt goes with it, for family, community, and the celebration of life.
The object he brought is a weight scale that belonged to his grandfather. His grandfather went town to town trading gold, silver, and opium to provide for his family in hard times. To Remmus the scale means sacrifice, resilience, survival, and how far the family has come. He still keeps it close.
